Cape Point Hotel Goes Green
The Gambia has one of the poorest electrical infastructures in the world. All hotels have 24hr standby generators to compensate for any electrical outage. Hotels are the biggest consumers of electricity in The Gambia. They account for up to 30% of electrical usage in the country with heavy load on the country's ailing Generators. Cape Point Hotel in its bid to cut its electrical is the first hotel in The Gambia to introduce electrical solar system throughout the hotel. The solar powered heaters are placed in strategic positions on the rooftops of the hotel to provide hot water. The system is integrated with an automated water heater shall their be little sunshine or the water is not up to a high heating point, it will take over . This project was installed and integrated with spanish company Quimicas Morales. The project is now complete and fully running. General Manager Ebrima Bojang has pledge this is not the last of such projects " We are always looking for clean & energy efficient solutions and it is always nice to take the first step and hopefully sight a new direction and example for other hotels and heavy electrical users in the country that we can play our part to help decrease the load on the national supplier "
